SUPPORT QUESTIONS

Click on ‘Legs 11 Fundraiser’ on the main menu to get started and choose one of the following options.

  1. Join a Team
  2. Fundraise as an Individual
  3. Create a Team

Join a Team – you may have seen a notification on facebook that one of your family members, work colleagues or friends is supporting this great cause. This is the option you would choose to sign on to join their team. It’s all about having some fun and generating some much needed funds to help others.

Fundraise as an Individual – this is the perfect option if you just want to get involved and help raise funds to support this cause. You can share your individual fundraiser goal on social media channels, such as facebook and ask family and friends to help you make a difference.

Create a Team – if you love getting people together to do something fun, get your thinking cap on and start planning an activity and get your supporters onboard! When creating a new team, you can allow anyone ‘public’ to join or use the ‘invite’ option to enter individual email addresses to invite selected individuals to join your team.

The Legs 11 campaign is all about doing something a little different that challenges you during the month of November –  this is a brand new fundraising event for The Umbrella Foundation Australia, so we can’t wait to see what ideas you come up with in 2021!

Yes, you sure can. For anyone who is just wanting to get behind the cause and help make a difference, you can click on the DONATE NOW button. All donations received  via the www.umbrellafoundationsfundraising.org website will be included in the total campaign figure.

Click on ‘Donor Dashboard’ in the main menu, you can enter your email address and it will send the registered email address a link to access the dashboard.

*Note: Make sure you enter the email address that you registered with to gain access to your dashboard and don’t forget to check your JUNK EMAIL folder.

When you make a donation, your receipt will be automatically emailed to you. Don’t forget to check your ‘Junk’ email folder. If you can’t find the email with the receipt attached, you can always view donation history in your ‘Donor Dashboard’

Yes, you can join multiple teams – but you need to use a different email address to do this. We are hoping that in the near future the software will allow users to join multiple teams using the same email address.

There are software limitations in place that prevent users from joining a team if they are already registered in the system as an ‘individual fundraiser’. We expect this issue to be resolved in the near future, however in the meantime, fundraisers who have already registered for this campaign as an individual, will need to use a different email address if they wish to ‘Join A Team’. Likewise, this is the case for anyone wishing to join multiple teams – you won’t be able to use the same email address to register for both teams.

Donation amounts listed on our website and on your receipt are in (AUD). Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible in Australia.

If you ‘log out’ of the website using the option on the top right hand corner of your screen, you will notice that a log in screen is displayed (see below). You can just close out of this window.

If you choose to log back into the website this way, you will be taken to a screen where you need to click on Legs 11 (highlighted in yellow) top left.

*Note: There’s no need to log into the system this way – it’s a lot easier to log in via the website  www.umbrellafoundationfundraising.org using the Donor Dashboard.

If you click on a DONATE NOW button on the website you can see total amount that has been raised and  how we are tracking toward our goal.  We will be providing updates on our social media pages too.

When you choose to ‘create a team’, you firstly need to register the team. You will automatically become the team captain (see below).

Once you have signed up as the team captain, the system then needs to register you as a fundraiser – this allows you to share links to the campaign and ask people to support your individual fundraising efforts  on your social media pages etc.

General Questions

The Legs 11 Campaign is a fundraising activity for a registered Australian charity to raise money for great organizations that support disadvantaged and vulnerable women and girls and children in Nepal.

The Legs 11 Campaign is about us – and we encourage everyone to join us – challenging ourselves to do something a little bit personally uncomfortable or challenging using our legs for the month of November – it could be doubling leg day at the gym, organising a challenging group hike or bike ride, committing to walking 5km each day or even stopping waxing or shaving our leg hair, or something similar – and raising both awareness and funds.

The focus on our legs and doing something a little bit harder or more uncomfortable than usual with them – for just a short period of a month – is about us drawing our attention to the parallels between our lives and the lives of women and young girls in Nepal.

If we choose to do something challenging around personal care – like stopping waxing, shaving our legs hair for a month – it draws attention to the ease of our choices and the absence of choice for many women and girls in Nepal who don’t have ready or affordable access to hygiene products, adequate showers and toilet facilities and access to products and facilities to manage menstrual hygiene.

If we choose to do something physically challenging – like working our legs harder at the gym, walking or cycling – it draws attention to doing hard physical work for fun and health, not because our livelihood depends on like the Nepalese brick kiln workers or its essential to live, like the women in more remote rural who walk many hours for water or working on the farm – including young, old, sick, and pregnant.

Through the Legs 11 Campaign website you can enter register yourself or a team, create yourself a fun challenge share amongst your friends, get everyone involved and work those legs to support great work for women and girls who don’t have ready access to things many of us take for granted and make our lives safe and comfortable.

The campaign is run by the The Umbrella Foundation Australia (TUFA). TUFA is a registered
charity in Australia. ABN – 18 621 117 566.

The Umbrella Foundation Australia (TUFA) was founded in 2013 and is a registered charity in
Australia.supporting trafficked & vulnerable children and their communities in Nepal. TUFA has
a track record of ensuring all funds raised actually get to the front line, to programs and activities that deliver results.

Our board and committee members are volunteers with our goal being 100% of all donations go
to the designated programs.

The TUFA Board have agreed that any funds raised by the Legs 11 Campaign in 2022 will be spent continuing work in Nepal through the TUFA Women of the Kilns Health & Hygiene Program – focused on the health and wellbeing of women working in the nearly 1300 brick kiln factories in Nepal which provides funding to providers with a local presence to provide local support and services  around things like menstrual health

It’s important to note that NONE of the funds raised will be used to fund the costs of running the campaign or supporting other costs of TUFA – members are donating their time and expertise, and the minimal financial costs are being met by donations from members specifically to fund the set up costs, such as getting the website up and running.

We hope to achieve three (3) things primarily:

  • Raise funds – as much as we can – that will be allocated to proven, hands on programs in Nepal that have a track record of improving the health and lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged women and girls on the ground
  • Continue to bring attention to the plight of economically and socially disadvantaged women and girls in Nepal and around the world and the discomfort of their lives – including access to products, information and services around personal health and hygiene many of us take for granted because it is so accessible to us
  • Act as another trigger to keep the conversations going about the challenges and disadvantages faced by many women and girls around the world – including in many communities in Australia unfortunately – and try and bring attention to the excellent work of the organizations actually delivering on-ground, practical improvements and what they need to keep going and how we can all help

TUFA has in the past raised the majority of their funds through running events – like Bollywood theme nights and a 1920s event – in Australia and also running treks and guided tours in Nepal. Both sources of funds effectively dried up with the worldwide Covid Pandemic – yet the needs of the people being helped by TUFA’s work grew.

The Board and members were trying to think of Covid safe fundraising ideas – and this one was put forward by one of the founders and the current president.

The name ‘Legs 11’ came up because it’s about legs and because the earliest the Board thought the program could run given the numerous lock-downs was November, the 11th month – and it seemed like a fun play on words with the old bingo call of ‘legs 11’ for number 11. We hope it’s easy to remember and reflects the fact this is meant to be fun – while doing something for a great cause.

The Legs 11 campaign is not really about legs and not about shaving/waxing leg hair – it’s about challenging ourselves to do something a little bit personally challenging or uncomfortable for one month – to raise funds and also awareness about the women and girls who don’t have ready access to things like personal care/hygiene products many of us take for granted.

One way for people to do this is to stop waxing or shaving our leg hair for a month – among the many other great leg ideas that also achieve the same object. In the context of this particular challenge however, we do feel it is very important that TUFA make clear we are all about body positivity for women and girls – we are not suggesting that anyone should or should not remove body hair – that is purely a personal choice and you should choose what feels right.

On the website, on the blog and also our social media feeds we have put up some ideas on ‘leg challenges’ you can take on yourself or create a team event.

We can’t wait to see the inventive ideas out there!

This is the first year the campaign has run so the Board didn’t set a specific goal – we are prepared to see where it goes. Nominally – for the purposes of keeping track of progress during the campaign and putting it on the website for all participants to see – the target has been set as $5000.

The program that will be funded is the TUFA Women of the Kilns Health & Hygiene Program – focused on the health and wellbeing of women working in the nearly 1300 brick kiln factories in Nepal which provides funding to providers with a local presence to provide local support and services around things like menstrual health

Remember, because any costs associated with the campaign have already been met by members making contributions for this purpose, any funds coming in via the campaign registrations or donations will all go to the program.

As we said, it’s not really about the legs as such – although we think with some creative thinking, you can make many events and activities fit the theme – but committing to doing something and getting our friends and family to support us.

One of the ideas on the website is hosting a picnic in an outdoor location – you have to walk to get there right – and fundraising that way. Another is a ‘toenail challenge’ of painting your nails in all the TUFA magenta/yellow/blue colours – and having to answer questions about why that was your fashion choice.

Another option is if you are not feeling physically great right now or work and family are keeping you too busy, maybe you can organize a team event and be the organizer rather than a participant.

But if that isn’t possible it is always a great option to:

  • make a tax-deductible donation (Paypal, Direct Deposit)
  • become a regular giver
  • become a member of TUFA
  • buy one of the TUFA products

Any funds raised during the campaign will be allocated to programs and projects in the current
financial year – as quickly as they can be. The TUFA Board are committed to getting the funds
working as quickly as possible.

The Umbrella Foundation ran the Legs 11 campaign for the first time in November 2021. Given all the covid challenges the Foundation considered it was quite successful. Legs 11 2021 received 39 donations, from 26 fundraisers and 6 teams – for a total of $2010.  The funds have been allocated to the TUFA Women of the Kilns Health & Hygiene Program – focused on the health and wellbeing of women working in the nearly 1300 brick kiln factories in Nepal. The funds were distributed in April/May 2022.

Since 2014 ‘The Umbrella Foundation Australia’ has been overseeing a ‘health & hygiene’ program in Nepal through our partners ‘Day’s for Girls International’ (DFG). Our trained DFG ambassador in Nepal oversees the production of menstruation kits and accompanies our coordinators out in the field to deliver support to women working in the kiln factories through our Women of the Kilns program.

Through attending the program women receive a DFG washable menstruation kit that consists of:

  • 2 Pairs of underpants
  • 2 Waterproof winged shields
  • 8 Protective absorbent liner inserts
  • Visual instruction care guide
  • 1 Washcloth

As well as the Washable menstruation kits the attendees receive;

  • Clean underwear
  • Soap
  • Health & Hygiene education
  • Maternal health support
